About Us

Collaborators

We grew out of the Natural Capital Project and retain academic appointments at both founding university partners, Stanford University and University of Minnesota. Our current work supports scientists and practitioners at Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, World Resources Institute, Cornell University, University of California - Davis, German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), International Institute for Sustainability, and Unilever Safety & Environmental Assurance Centre.

Our Core Values

Open science and software: we believe science and software should be accessible to everyone. That’s why our code is open source and our datasets are freely available.

Respect: we treat every person with dignity and value them as individuals.

Collaboration: we recognize the power of interdisciplinary teams and aim to bring diverse perspectives to the table.

For public good.

We created SPRING to build the software infrastructure needed to scale the science demanded by urgent decisions concerning planetary stewardship. After more than a decade working from within academia to support public and private decision-makers, we recognized that some of these approaches are more easily scaled outside of universities. We continue to work closely with collaborators in academia to push the science forward and to develop software infrastructure that will accelerate that innovation. SPRING is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

For justice.

Our mission is to unleash the power of science and software for planetary health and prosperity — and that means everyone. Spring is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our organization, such that:

  1. our software provides different levels of accessibility for different user needs and problems,

  2. our science includes considerations of equity in socio-environmental problem-solving,

  3. our solutions reach audiences across diverse geographic, racial, and socioeconomic, backgrounds,

  4. our hiring strategies have with diversity and inclusion at the core, recognizing the importance of representation as we aim to solve global problems, and

  5. our staff feel supported and empowered to contribute their diverse ideas and perspectives

At Spring we believe that by increasing the diversity of people engaged in environmental science and its application, more innovative, sustainable, and just solutions can be forged to pressing global problems.

For a brighter future.

We’re just getting started, but we’re excited to build a team full of people who share our values and are ready to innovate for nature alongside us. Check back here for job postings.
